    Welcome

Durham Companions is a non-profit organization, that provide one-on-one mentoring services for at-risk youth between the ages of 6 - 17. The program's goal is to brighten the future of these young men and women, by giving them a consistent and positive relationship with an adult. Our youth desperately need the love and attention that a mentor can offer.

Durham Companions has been serving the Durham community for over 20 years. It is a part of the state wide Governor's One-On-One Volunteer Program established by Governor James B. Hunt in 1982. The program recruits, screens, and trains local citizens to serve as mentors.

Volunteer training sessions will be held soon. Please call for further information.

helping youth find their way

Durham Companions is a non-profit organization whose goal is to provide consistent and positive role models to young people ages 6–17 years old. Its purpose isn’t to help good kids be better kids, but to save the lives of young men and women who desperately need love and attention. Several youth in the program have made mistakes, but are looking for guidance to realize their full potential. You can be the one who can show them the way.

A mentoring program that works

Statistics from previous mentoring relationships through Durham Companions show that approximately 95% of the youth have refrained from illegal activities after being matched for one year. Without proper guidance these youth may end up in training school and the financial impact to the community would be twenty times greater than the cost of this mentoring program.
